Signs for change at Occupy Sydney
22 October 2011
Occupy Sydney had its second rally after the big start on 15 October 2011.
I wasn’t a full time Occupier, I have a part time job and two children. I participate and support the occupation with donations, time and anything I can think of.
What I didn’t know at the time was that at 5am 23 October 2011 all these signs would be destroyed and peaceful protestors would be violently evicted from Martin Place. Footage can be found at the official YouTube here - http://www.youtube.com/user/occupysydneymedia
Even so, people continued to Occupy Martin Place. It wasn’t anything like the first occupation, but police continued to harass and intimidate anyone that participated in Occupy Sydney working groups or the ongoing protest.
Eventually the Occupy Sydney movement has regrown an occupation. It is slow. Though it holds integrity and maintains public space.
The signs come and go with weather damage. So this is a way keep them alive with the spirit they were made.
No matter where you are in the world, a sign for change shows us we are all on the same page. Please add to this blog and show that together we maintain the Occupy movement; that another world is possible and that change is in the hands of the people.
